Veteran rap group and homesteaders of the alté sound, DRB Lasgidi, have been hinting at the release of their upcoming album, Pioneers, all year. After spending the last few years perfecting their sounds individually, DRB has reconvened to translate their experiences into collectively enjoyable music.
To further whet our appetites as we await the Pioneers album, the group serves up an Afro-Highlife number, ‘Softly’. Highly reminiscent of the palmwine music soundscape signature to SDC, the Pheelz produced track finds each artist playing their part in providing a buoyant vibe.
Boj’s melodic voice lays the foundation as he serenades a love interest with a catchy hook. Fresh L and Teezee follow suit with rhythmic flows and signature wordplay filled verses expected of the clan. And the true star of the show, the Pheelz-produced beat, seals the deal; serving as the perfect backdrop to convey the relaxed vibe of the track.
The tracklist of Pioneers is already looking fire, housing guest appearances from household favs like Santi, Maison2500, and Tems, and if ‘Softly’ is anything to go by, then we’re certainly in for a treat.
