Listen to New World Ray’s Double Whammy Release of ‘Minaj’ + ‘Mollywood’.

Following the release of his last project, Fucking Hell, last year, UK based Nigerian trap artist, New World Ray has since then gone on to tour the project in the UK and Toronto, Canada. Subsequently, he blessed us with some new singles to usher in the new decade, including the all-star Maison2500 and dndSection collab, ‘Status’.

For his first offering of the year, Ray serves up a double whammy release of singles, ‘Minaj’ and ‘Mollywood’. Embodying the psychedelic soundscape native to his rap collective, No Politics Mob, both songs take on similar themes with different sonic intentions. The 808onthetrack produced ‘Minaj’ sees the rapper recounting his experiences in threesomes with women; his simplistic chorus echoing repeatedly over upbeat, looped drum kicks & tinkling hi-hats, ‘I’m finna have a Minaj/Ménage à trois’.

On ‘Mollywood’, the rapper takes a more melodic route, narrating from the perspective of the hallucinogen drug ‘Molly’ as she declares her love for and loyalty to him, ‘I done fell in love again/I’m gon’ be your wife and your best friend/Said her name is Molly/And when you got Molly/You don’t need anybody’. The thumping 808s and murky synths courtesy of theskybeats certainly play no small role in giving the song that extra oomph.

With accompanying visuals hinted to be on the way, we can’t help but wait for what next Ray has in store for us amidst this lockdown.
